Market consultation concerning innovation to transform healthcare waste management

 

June 2021

University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust and North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) will launch a tender for waste management services towards the end of 2021. This provides an ideal opportunity to fundamentally rethink the way that our ‘waste' is managed.

In order to deliver on our progressive sustainable development strategy and our commitment to environmental protection, carbon reduction and the circular economy, we need forward-looking, integrated and environmentally sustainable solutions to both the reduction and management of waste.

This shift is in line with the NHS drive towards more sustainable, environmentally friendly waste management methods, reducing carbon emissions and harmful emissions and achieving the NHS 2050 net-zero carbon target.

This initiative is supported by NHS England and NHS Improvement and has attracted considerable interest from other NHS Trusts and networks. More information is available in the attached Joint Statement of Demand.

In advance of the formal tendering process, we are launching a period of market sounding to provide potential suppliers with advance notice of the tender and to consult with the supply chain and innovation networks.

We invite expressions of interest from all parts of the supply chain and invite you to provide feedback by completing a short Market Survey and look forward to receiving your response.

NOTE: This is not a call for tenders or a pre-qualification exercise. It is a prior market sounding exercise to provide advanced information of our requirements and open a dialogue with the supply chain. The feedback from the supply chain will be used to inform our tender specification and strategy.
